For this group, the story hook was linked to a failed Edge of Darkness scenario. You'll need a little set up to get into the first act. I didn't quite nail the "wrongness" vibe in a way that I was happy with but I think that the setting lends itself to the vibe really well. While it isn't quite the same era, my vision was similar to that shown in The Vast of Night. The diner has a lot that you can play about and channels the creepy vibes of small town America. I really like playing about with liminal spaces and personally find them really spooky. The setting is nice to play in, an isolated cottage and a diner in the 1920s. In this session there were four investigators, two of whom were playing their second CoC scenario, the others were on to their third. Short review, it is a lot of fun and would recommend it for most groups with a couple of caveats. I recently ran the scenario called 'Dead Light', published by Chaosium.
